From Eliyahu
Tonight at sundown the first day of the eight-day feast of Sukkot begins . This 1st day of Sukkot is very special, since it is the birthday of Yeshua, when He was born into His earthly life, in the line of David. This is good news for all of us, as an angel proclaimed to the shepherds of Bethlehem. As it is written:
"There were shepherds in the same country [of Bethlehem] staying in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock. Behold, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. The angel said to them, Don't be afraid, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be to all the people. For there is born to you, this day, in the city of David, a Savior, who is Messiah the Lord. This is the sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth, lying in a feeding trough. Suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army praising God, and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, on earth peace, good will toward men."" (Luke 2:8-15)
It is altogether fitting that Yeshua came into the world for this special feast of Sukkot. Indeed, this feast is meant to be a preview of the coming thousand year reign of Yeshua in His Kingdom Glory, ruling from Jerusalem. That is the real reason why the feast of Sukkot is known as "The season of our joy!" It is filled with the joy of the Kingdom. That the Messiah of that kingdom has come into the world is "good news of great joy" indeed! Want some joy? Keep the feast with us!
"You shall keep the feast [of Sukkot] to YHWH your God seven days in the place which YHWH shall choose; because YHWH your God will bless you in all your increase, and in all the work of your hands, and you shall be altogether joyful." (Deuteronomy 16:13-15)
You may of noticed the verse above says 'seven days' but we keep the feast eight days. Why is that? That's because the eighth day is separately mentioned in Scripture, and is known as the "Last Great Day" of the feast. The eighth day corresponds with the eternity that will follow the millennium, when all things will have been set right forever. The Book of Revelation paints this picture:
"I saw a new heaven and a new earth: ..I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, ..I heard a loud voice out of heaven saying, "Behold, God's dwelling is with people, and he will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away from them every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more. The first things have passed away." He who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." He said, "Write, for these words of God are faithful and true."" (Rev 21:1-5)
All of that points to yet future realities that are waiting for those who serve Yeshua's Kingdom right now, in this life. Yeshua came to establish His Kingdom. He did that, and right now He is ruling over His Kingdom people from heaven. Peter said:
"Men of Israel, hear these words! Yeshua the Nazorean, a man approved by God to you by mighty works and wonders and signs which God did by him in the midst of you, even as you yourselves know, him, being delivered up by the determined counsel and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by the hand of lawless men, crucified and killed; whom God raised up, having freed him from the agony of death, because it was not possible that he should be held by it. ... Brothers, I may tell you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, he would raise up the Messiah to sit on his throne, he foreseeing this spoke about the resurrection of the Messiah, that neither was his soul left in the grave, nor did his flesh see decay. This Yeshua God raised up, to which we all are witnesses." (Acts 2:22-24, 29-32)
Yeshua, the King, has been seated on the Throne of the Kingdom of David in Heaven for nearly 2,000 years. When He returns to rule the universe from Jerusalem all who have been faithful subjects of His Kingdom here on the Earth, in the interim, will be raised up to be immortal beings like Him - to rule with Him. That Kingdom opportunity remains open right now. However, to be a part one must seize the opportunity while it is still available.
The Kingdom is real. It is ruling in Heaven right now and is being restored to His Kingdom people here on Earth. That is, to those people who find it, who value it above all else, and who seize onto that Kingdom. It is just as Yeshua said:
“The Kingdom of Heaven is like treasure hidden in the field, which a man found, and hid. In his joy, he goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field. “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who is a merchant seeking fine pearls, who having found one pearl of great price, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it." (Matthew 13:44-46)
This is why we need to follow and learn from Yeshua the Nazorean. He is the King and He alone knows exactly the Way that each of us, individually, needs to trod to enter into His Kingdom now, to stay on that Kingdom path in the unique will of the Father, and to endure to the end to receive our Kingdom reward. We must realize that many of us have been sold a sort of cheap grace that requires little of us. It is rather amazing that the apostle many turn to, to support their cheap grace attitude, was not at all as smug about it as they are! Paul wrote:
"Not that I have already obtained, or am already made perfect; but I press on, if it is so that I may take hold of that for which also I was taken hold of by Messiah Yeshua. Brothers, I don't regard myself as yet having taken hold, but one thing I do. Forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Messiah Yeshua." (Philippians 3:12-14)
Did Paul believe in grace? No doubt. Yet, Paul was not about to take his Kingdom reward for granted. He kept pressing on toward the "high calling of God in Messiah Yeshua." Paul is talking about his future reward at Yeshua's Return. He believed that what he did in this life would effect his reward in the world to come. He kept pressing on, exerting himself in his mission in the Kingdom now, to secure the best place possible in the millennial Kingdom later. Paul understood that the purpose of the grace of God in saving us, is so that we might bring forth much fruit for the Kingdom. (see Matt 13:23, 21:43, Lk 3:9, Jn 4:36, 15:2, 8, 16)
Yeshua's Way is very different from the majority opinion of most believers today. Did you ever read what He said and really stop to meditate on His words? You will find that much of what He said and did is quite the opposite from the message preached in many churches. Over the next eight days we will be taking a close look at Yeshua and His message. Just doing that can be completely life-changing. His Kingdom and His righteousness, though hated by this world, are food and life to the poor and the honest-hearted. I hope you will make time to take this journey with us over these eight nights. You just might find the treasure you have always longed for.
